kaolin /ka·o·lin/ (ka´o-lin) native hydrated aluminum silicate, powdered and freed from gritty particles by elutriation; used as an adsorbent and, often with pectin, an antidiarrheal.
kaolin [kā′əlin] Etymology: Chin, kao-ling, high ridge an adsorbent used internally to treat diarrhea, often in combination with pectin. Kaolin in an ointment base is also used topically as an absorbent and a protective emollient. kaolin (kā´ n a fine, pure-white clay (hydrated aluminum silicate) used in porcelain teeth. kaolin native hydrated aluminum silicate; used externally as an adsorbent and protective and internally as a gastrointestinal adsorbent and demulcent in mild diarrhea.
