a magnifying lens mounted in a frame worn on the head, as used to examine the eyes.

head loupe
a magnifying lens mounted on a headband, freeing both hands of the clinician. Used principally in ophthalmology.

magnifier
An optical device, commonly used for close viewing, which produces an apparent magnification. It can be monocular or binocular, held in the hand (hand magnifier) or mounted in front of the eye (stand magnifier). It rarely exceeds a magnification of ✕10 and does not produce an inversion of the image (Fig. M5). Syn. loupe. See distance of distinct vision; magnifying lens; apparent magnification; low vision.
