isotype [ī′sətīp] an antigenic determinant that occurs in all members of a subclass of an immunoglobulin class. An antigenic determinant that is isotypic in one subclass may appear as an allotypic marker in another class. isotype the antigenic variability between related proteins, e.g. between immunoglobulin classes of a single species.
