intestinal flu,
a viral gastroenteritis, an inflammation of the stomach and intestines, usually caused by infection by an enterovirus. It is characterized by abdominal cramps, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Control of diarrhea may be achieved with antidiarrheal medication and a diet limited to clear fluids. See also enteric infection, gastroenteritis.
