Infections acquired during admission to intensive care units may have led to the deaths of four babies in Victorian hospitals in the 12 months to June 30, 2005. Neonatal intensive care units routinely save the lives of extremely premature and critically ill newborns. For three months, the baby fought for life in the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit - fought so hard that nurse Beth Heetland gave up her days off to come in to care for her. |
