infectious gastritis, any type of inflammation of the gastric mucosa, usually chronic, caused by a bacterial infection in the stomach, the most common type being Helicobacter pylori gastritis. Many cases are asymptomatic, but symptoms can include dyspepsia and gastrointestinal bleeding.
