Jonathan Allen and Tom Slezak from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, America, have revealed that most of the genetic markers of influenza infection severity, which have been identified from past outbreaks, were not found in samples of the current swine-flu strain.
Whereas host genetic susceptibility plays a key role in modulating disease manifestation, variations in bacterial virulence properties contribute to infection severity.
Treatments last 10 minutes and are administered two to three times a day over a 2- to 3-week period, depending on infection severity.
