ejaculation [-ā′shən] Etymology: L, ejaculari, to hurl out the sudden emission of semen from the male urethra, usually during copulation, masturbation, or nocturnal emission. It is a reflex action in two phases. In the first phase, sperm, seminal fluid, and prostatic and bulbourethral gland secretions are moved into the urethra. In the second phase, strong spasmodic peristaltic contractions force ejaculation. The sensation of ejaculation is commonly also called orgasm . The fluid volume of the ejaculate is usually between 2 and 5 mL. Each milliliter usually contains 50 million to 150 million spermatozoa. ejaculatory [ijak'yələtôr'ē] , adj. ejaculation [e-jak″u-la´shun] forcible, sudden expulsion; especially expulsion of semen from the male urethra, a reflex action that occurs as a result of sexual stimulation. adj., adj ejac´ulatory. The three components of semen are expelled in quick succession. First to emerge is a lubricating fluid produced by the bulbourethral glands in the penis; next comes a fluid released into the urethral channel by the prostate, providing a neutral medium within which the sperm cells can swim; and lastly, the spermatic fluid, which has been stored in the seminal vesicles, is likewise injected into the urethral channel and ejaculated. "Two techniques are commonly used to treat premature ejaculation. They also help reduce the anxiety that often aggravates the problem. Each technique trains the man to experience high levels of excitement without ejaculating. Both involve self-stimulation of the penis (while masturbating) or stimulation by a partner until the man feels that he will soon ejaculate. When done with a partner, stimulation is at first by hand and later before or during intercourse. In the stop-and-start technique, stimulation is stopped. With the squeeze technique, the man or his partner squeezes for 10 to 20 seconds the part of the penis where the head (glans) meets the shaft, preventing ejaculation and decreasing the strength of the erection. In both techniques, stimulation can resume after about 30 seconds. With practice, more than 95% of men learn to delay ejaculation for 5 to 10 minutes or even longer."
