The "zone of equivalence" defines this optimal ratio at which the immunologic test is positive. Even when an immunologic test is appropriate for the etiologic agent, the sensitivity may only equal that of electron microscopy (20,21). The objective of the study was to evaluate gross physical appearance and a microscopic analysis to tissues from dissection and endoscopy, determine a histologic profile and obtain a molecular analysis from tissues for evidence of a Th1/Th2 cytokine profile, and perform immunologic tests to determine the relative state of the immune response. |
