Methods for assessment of ASAB can be categorized into: 1) direct methods to detect the presence of ASAB on sperm (sperm mixed agglutination reaction [sMAR], immunobead test [IBT]) or; 2) agglutination tests using donor sperm (gelatin agglutination test, tray agglutination test [TAT], radiolabeled agglutinin assay).
A solid-phase membrane immunobead assay with a monoclonal antibody directed against Pacific ciguatoxins and related polyether toxins was used to detect ciguatoxins or other antigenically related substances in fish tissues.
Sira Technologies has held the patent on a solid-phase immunobead assay (S-PIA) that has been used successfully in detecting ciguatoxin and okadaic acid.
