hypesthesia [hī′pisthē′zhə] Etymology: Gk, hypo, under, aisthesis, feeling a decrease in sensation in response to stimulation of the sensory nerves or body organs or areas they innervate. Also called hypoesthesia. hypesthetic, adj. hypoesthesia [hi″po-es-the´zhah] abnormally decreased sensitivity to stimuli, particularly to touch. Called also hypesthesia. adj., adj hypoesthet´ic.
