adj.
Readily absorbing moisture, as from the atmosphere.
hygroscopic (hī´grōskop´ik),
adj having the property of absorbing moisture. When applied to gypsum products in contact with free water during their set, the resultant expansion is implied. See also expansion, hygroscopic.
