Hexamethylenetetramine (hexamine) has already been used industrially for the production of interior-grade tannin-bonded panels of low or no formaldehyde emission (Pizzi 1977, 1999; Pizzi et al.
In a similar case, a leading global manufacturer of belts and hoses to the automotive and industrial aftermarket had been strengthening its belts with polyester cord pre-treated with a combination of hexamethoxymelamine or hexamethylenetetramine and phenol-formaldehyde condensation product, where the phenol is usually resorcinol.
In combination with a methylene donor such as hexamethylenetetramine (HMT-80/EPR/P) or hexamethoxymethylmelamine (HMMM-50/EPR/S), the resins function as adhesion promoter additives to the rubber compound.
These materials included acetic acid, dioxane, hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA or hexa), epichlorohydrin, glyoxal, sodium hydroxide (50% NaOH), phenol (99%), formaldehyde (50% HCHO), chromatographic compounds, etc.

Hexamethylenetetramine, HMT, was added at 33% of total resin.
