Human B lymphotropic virus A lymphotropic virus that infects most Americans early in life, causing a fever and rash; although usually benign, HHV-6 may cause fulminant hepatitis and roseola–exanthema subitum with acute infectious mononucleosis-like Sx; it is a major cause of acute febrile illness in young children, and is associated with varied clinical manifestations and viremia; 10% of ER visits and hospitalization up to age 2, and 20% of visits age 6-12 months for febrile seizures are linked to HHV-6
