hepatic lobule

hepatic lobule
n.
A polygonal histologic unit of the liver, consisting of masses of liver cells arranged around a central vein that is a terminal branch of one of the hepatic veins, and at whose periphery branches of the portal vein, hepatic artery, and bile duct are located.

lobule [lob´ūl]
a small segment or lobe, especially one of the smaller divisions making up a lobe. adj., adj lob´ular.

hepatic lobule one of the small vascular units composing the substance of the liver.

parietal lobule one of two divisions, inferior and superior, of the parietal lobe of the brain.
portal lobule a polygonal mass of liver tissue containing portions of three adjacent hepatic lobules, and having a portal vein at its center and a central vein peripherally at each corner.
primary lobule of lung (primary respiratory lobule) the functional unit of the lung; terminal respiratory unit.

ansiform lobule
a lobule of the cerebellar hemispheres.

paramedian lobule
a lobule of the cerebellar hemispheres.
parietal lobule
one of two divisions, inferior and superior, of the parietal lobe of the brain.
portal lobule
a polygonal mass of liver tissue containing portions of three adjacent hepatic lobules, and having a portal vein at its center and a central vein peripherally at each corner.
primary lobule of lung
the functional unit of the lung, including a respiratory bronchiole, alveolar ducts and sacs, and alveoli. Called also respiratory lobule (below).
lobule quadrangularis
a lobule of the rostral lobe of the cerebellum.
respiratory lobule
see primary lobule of lung (above).
lobule simplex
a lobule of the cerebellar hemispheres.
testis lobule
a group of seminiferous tubules, connective tissue and smooth muscle, the basic unit of the testis.
