amebiasis /ame·bi·a·sis/ (am″e-bi´ah-sis) infection with amebae, especially Entamoeba histolytica. amebiasis cu´tis painful ulcers with distinct borders and erythematous rims, seen in persons with active intestinal or hepatic disease. hepatic amebiasis amebic hepatitis. intestinal amebiasis amebic dysentery. pulmonary amebiasis infection of the thoracic space secondary to intestinal amebiasis, with amebic liver abscesses. hepatic amebiasis, a disorder characterized by enlargement and tenderness of the liver that is often associated with amebic dysentery.
