The ANJ reported on the recall of Astra Zeneca's heparinised saline solution in May which was found to contain the contaminant "over-sulphated chondroitin sulphate" (OSCS) associated with severe anaphylactic reactions in the US and Europe.
A sample of whole blood ~30 [micro]L was collected into a heparinised capillary tube and examined immediately using an automated reagent test strip analyser (Reflotron Plus Analyser, Bio Stat Ltd.
Following anesthetization blood was collected using heparinised syringes.
