measles /mea·sles/ (mēz´'lz) rubeola; a highly contagious viral infection, usually of childhood, involving primarily the respiratory tract and reticuloendothelial tissues, marked by an eruption of discrete, red papules, which become confluent, flatten, turn brown, and desquamate.
atypical measles  a form of natural measles infection affecting those who previously received killed measles virus vaccine.
black measles  a severe form in which the eruption is very dark and petechial.
