height (hīt) the vertical measurement of an object or body.
height of contour 
1. a line encircling a tooth representing its greatest circumference.
2. the line encircling a tooth in a more or less horizontal plane and passing through the surface point of greatest radius.
3. the line encircling a tooth at its greatest bulge or diameter with respect to a selected path of insertion.

the greatest convexity of a tooth surface, viewed from a predetermined position.

n a shape of a tooth that is essential to a healthy gingival unit because it enables the bolus of food to be deflected from gingival margins during mastication.
