Patient discussion about health food.

Q. Is there any food which can help me to have a good sleep? I do not get a good sleep and I fear that soon I will be diagnosed for insomnia. Already it is making me depressed and stressful. My friend has advised me to meet the doctor. I do not want to have sleep pills. I have tried to get sleep by doing exercise so though it makes me tired to have enough sleep. But it has not helped. I want to know that is there any food which can help me to have a good sleep.

A. I have had problems with sleep on and off for years. My best nights sleep happen when I do not eat at least 3 hours before bed, no alcohol, and exercising before bed just revs you up and causes you not to be able to sleep, it has the opposite affect that you think it would have. I do take generic Benydryl some nights after a stressfull day and it helps with no sleepness the next day if you take it at least 8 hours before bed. I also found the more I worried that I would not sleep were the worst nights and please turn the clock away from you, do not look at it even if you are still awake it will just stress you out more thinking you only have some many hours left to get some sleep. I know this is long but I hope you start getting a good nights sleep without meds.

Q. How long does it take for an allergy to occur after eating a food? Ok, I am allergic to peppers, each time I get an allergic reaction it takes longer and longer for the allergy to occur last time it was nearly 10 hours after eating the food this time it was 17 hours after eating the food. Is this even possible? I thought reactions occurred at max 4-6 hours after eating the food

A. i have a LOT of allergies. i am allergic to nuts very bad and i ate a chocolate with a nut in that a didn't notice, 10 seconds after digesting gave me a bad feeling in my throat and a few more seconds later i was violently sick and couldn't breathe very well and needed to call an ambulance 10 seconds later. i think its how bad the allergy, the quicker it starts to take effect.

Q. Too many weddings with too many fatty food – any advice? In the last few months I’ve been on a moderate diet, and already lost 10 pounds, but now I’m facing a threat – a series of weddings, all of them with lots of fatty food and cakes tempting me to “just taste them”… Any advice how to avoid these calorie-rich pitfalls? :-)

A. You can try to skip the parts with the fatty-but-not-satiating parts to avoid eating cakes etc.
