headstock substantial wooden or metal fixed apparatus for restraining a cow by the neck in a crush, milking parlor or feed stalls. There is a bar or tongue which is swiveled at the bottom and can be opened at the top. When the animal puts its head into the open space the tongue is closed tight enough to prevent the beast getting its head out. The tongue has a quick release catch so that it can be opened quickly in an emergency. Called also head bail, neck yoke, head clamp. How to thank TFD for its existence?
