Any condition in which urine contains blood or red blood cells.
Synonym(s): haematuria.

haematuria

Blood in the urine. In large quantity this causes a smoky, bright red or brownish appearance, but small quantities may be unnoticed. OCCULT blood can be detected by simple tests. Haematuria may result from bleeding from any part of the urinary system, from the kidneys to the URETHRA and must always be investigated.
