granulosa cell tumor
n.
A benign or malignant tumor of the ovary developing from the granular layer of the Graafian follicle and frequently secreting estrogen. Also called folliculoma.

Etymology: L, granulum, little grain
a fleshy ovarian tumor with yellow streaks that originates in cells of the primordial membrana granulosa and may grow to a large size. Excessive production of estrogen, resulting in endometrial hyperplasia and menorrhagia, may be associated with the tumor. Also called granulosa cell carcinoma.

granulosa cell tumor [gran″u-lo´sah]
an ovarian tumor originating in the granulosa cells, the solid mass of cells surrounding the graafian follicle; it may be associated with excessive production of estrogen, inducing endometrial hyperplasia with menorrhagia.

granulosa cell tumor
an ovarian stromal tumor originating in the solid mass of cells (granulosa cells) that surrounds the ovum in a developing graafian follicle. It may be associated with excessive production of estrogen, inducing endometrial hyperplasia and signs of hyperestrogenism. Most commonly observed in cows and mares, less commonly in the bitch, queen and ewe.
