swelling of cells due to injury to the membranes affecting ionic transfer; causes an accumulation of intracellular water.

granular degeneration

swelling of cells caused by accumulation of intracellular water in response to cell injury. Also called ballooning degeneration hydropic degeneration, cloudy swelling.
