Asked whether Mr Blair had been influenced by US President George Bush, she said he would probably not have gone to war in Iraq without the support of the US, but he was a "very strong politician".
Mr Blair expressed "deep sympathy" for the family of the Newcastle serviceman and was defended by Chancellor Gordon Brown, who said the Prime Minister had gone to war in the national interest.
