The marjorams are coming into flower, the long row of golden yarrow looks amazing and the double row of pot marigolds, Calendula officinalis, that I planted earlier is a great success.
In spring, a hike up one of these oasis canyons can offer a rainbow display, as the usually drab walls of rock suddenly come alive with brown-eyed evening primrose, deep purple lupine, desert sunflowers, flaming ocotillo cactus, tall standing yucca, gently curving fiddleneck and vibrant golden yarrow.
In Tehachapi, the Tehachapi Resource Conservation District sells California poppy seeds and a mix of California poppy, golden yarrow, tidy tips and goldfield, which all grow in the Antelope Valley, along with mountain garland, blue flax, bird's eye gilia, California bluebells, perennial lupine, miniature lupine and Mexican campion.
