white willow

Herbal medicine
A deciduous tree, the bark of which contains salicylic glycosides and tannins, and is analgesic and antipyretic. It has been used internally for GI complaints, fever, headache, menstrual cramping, muscle, rheumatic and gouty pain; it has been used topically for arthritic pain and swelling, burns and cuts.
 
Toxicity
White willow should not be used in children, as salicylates are linked to Reye syndrome.
