glucosamine /glu·co·sa·mine/ (gloo-ko´sah-mēn) an amino derivative of glucose, occurring in glycosaminoglycans and a variety of complex polysaccharides such as blood group substances. The sulfate salt is used as a nutritional supplement and as a popular remedy for osteoarthritis.

An amino derivative of glucose that is found especially in polysaccharides such as chitin and in cell membranes.

glucosamine [gloo-ko´-sah-mēn]
an amino derivative of glucose occurring in many glycoproteins and mucopolysaccharides.

glucosamine (glōō·kōˑ·s·mēn),
n 2-amino-2-deoxyglucose in chitin, mucopolysaccharides, and mucoproteins. Used with chondroitin for osteoarthritis. Not for consumption by children, pregnant or nursing women, and people with diabetes. Can cause sleepiness, headaches, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, esophageal reflux, upset stomach, and rashes. chitosamine and
