glomerular filtration rate
n. Abbr. GFR
The volume of water filtered out of the plasma through glomerular capillary walls into Bowman's capsules per unit of time.

glomerular filtration rate,
n a kidney function test in which the results are determined from the amount of ultrafiltrate formed by plasma flowing through the glomeruli of the kidney. It may be calculated from insulin and creatinine clearance, serum creatinine, and blood urea nitrogen (BUN).
