Just over 16 per cent have false teeth, say the British Society of Gerodontology.
Prof Steele wants older people to have extended consultations to plan long-term care and for more dentists to train in gerodontology.
The name is, perhaps appropriately, a bit of a mouthful but the British Society of Gerodontology (that is the science of looking after older people's teeth) warns today that the NHS will be hard hit over the next 10 years or so looking after pensioners needing more restorative work on the likes of fillings and crowns, before we feel the benefits of a younger generation with even less decay and so fewer calls on the dentists' services.
