Gastrolobium a genus of Australian plants in the Fabaceae family, with numerous toxic species. All but one occur in south-western Australia. The toxic principle is monofluoroacetic acid and all species cause sudden death due to cardiomyopathy and heart failure. G. appressum, G. bennettsianum, G. bilobum, G. callistachys, G. calycinum, G. crassifolium, G. densifolium, G. floribundum, G. forrestii, G. glaucum, G. grandiflorum, G. graniticum, G. hamulosum, G. heterophyllum, G. laytonii, G. microcarpum, G. ovalifolium, G. oxyloboides, G. parviflorum, G. parvifolium, G. polystachyum, G. propinquum, G. pycnostachyum, G. racemosum, G. rotundifolium, G. spectabile, G. spinosum, G. stenophyllum, G. tetragonophyllum, G. tomentosum, G. trilobum, G. velutinum and G. villosum are shrubs of various heights and habits.
