[ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] The study used green tea extract in capsule form containing the polyphenol epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which is known to have antioxidant properties.
To reach the conclusion, scientists exposed a group of cultured bone-forming cells (osteoblasts) to three major green tea components - epigallocatechin (EGC), gallocatechin (GC), and gallocatechin gallate (GCG) - for several days.
The broth had been supplemented with either L-ascorbic acid or propyl gallate alone or in combination with lactic acid.
