A hollow at the lower part of the chest caused by a backward displacement of the xiphoid cartilage. Also called funnel breast, pectus excavatum, pectus recurvatum.

Etymology: L, fundere, to pour
a skeletal abnormality of the chest characterized by a depressed sternum. The deformity may not interfere with breathing, but surgical correction is often recommended for cosmetic reasons. Also called pectus excavatum.
