frustrationThe emotion resulting when aims or intentions are blocked. Frustration is inevitable but some people aim for goals inherently beyond their capacity and suffer a much higher level of frustration than others. Others aim for mutually incompatible, or equally attractive but mutually exclusive, goals. Frustration breeds anger which may lead to aggression and this is often displaced and directed against an inappropriate target. Displaced anger is a common cause of marital discord.
