autograft /au·to·graft/ (aw´to-graft) a tissue graft transferred from one part of the patient's body to another part.

A tissue or an organ grafted into a new position in or on the body of the same individual. Also called autologous graft, autotransplant.

Autograft
Tissue that is taken from one part of a person's body and transplanted to a different part of the same person.

Etymology: Gk, autos + graphion, stylus
surgical transplantation of any tissue from one part of the body to another location in the same individual. Autografts are used in several kinds of plastic surgery, most commonly to replace skin lost in severe burns. Compare allograft, isograft, xenograft. See also graft.

n a procedure in which a graft is attached to an exposed area of a tooth's root. The graft is normally obtained from the palate of the oral cavity.
