formiminoglutamic acid /for·mim·i·no·glu·tam·ic ac·id/ (FIGLU) (for-mim″ĭ-no-gloo-tam´ik) an intermediate in the catabolic pathway from histidine to glutamate; it may be excreted in the urine in liver disease, vitamin B12 or folic acid deficiency, or in glutamic formiminotransferase deficiency.
formiminoglutamic acid (FIGLU) [fôrmim′inōglo̅o̅tam′ik] a compound formed in the metabolism of histidine, present in urine in elevated levels in folic acid deficiency. Increased excretion of FIGLU may indicate folic acid deficiency. formiminoglutamic acid a product of histidine metabolism.
