forefoot post

forefoot post

cast adaptation, or a wedge added to forefoot area of an orthotic, to improve foot function and reduce compensatory excess subtalar joint pronation
  • extrinsic forefoot post additional orthotic material added as a wedge to undersurface of medial forefoot area of an orthotic, to control compensatory subtalar joint pronation

  • intrinsic forefoot post additional material added to plantar forefoot area of a neutral cast of patient's foot, so that the orthotic made to the cast will alter sagittal-plane alignment of first, second and third metatarsals, to prevent excess compensatory subtalar joint pronation

This can be accomplished with a multilayered, total contact orthosis with adequate arch support, and possibly a medial hindfoot "wedge", and/or a medial forefoot post to address hyperpronation.
