forceps rotation, an obstetric operation in which forceps are used to turn a baby's head that is arrested in transverse or posterior position in the birth canal. It may be performed to facilitate spontaneous birth or to initiate a forceps delivery. Kinds of forceps rotation are Kielland's rotation and Scanzoni's rotation.
