n.
A unit of work equal to the energy expended, or work done, in raising a mass of one pound a height of one foot against gravity.

foot-pound,
a unit for the measurement of work or energy. One foot-pound is the amount of work required to move 1 pound a distance of 1 foot in the same direction as that of the applied force.

the amount of energy necessary to raise 1 pound of mass a distance of 1 foot.
