fluorocarbon /flu·o·ro·car·bon/ (floor´o-kahr″bәn) any of the class of organic compounds consisting of carbon and fluorine only. Fluorocarbon emulsions dissolve oxygen and carbon dioxide and can be used in place of red blood cell preparations in the prevention and treatment of ischemia.
