Flavivirus /Fla·vi·vi·rus/ (fla´vĭ-vi″rus) group B arboviruses: a genus of viruses of the family Flaviviridae, many members of which cause disease in humans and animals, including the agents of yellow fever, dengue, and St. Louis and other forms of encephalitis.

Flavivirus

Flavivirus,
a genus of a family of Flaviviridae single-stranded positive-sense ribonucleic acid viruses, including species that cause yellow fever, dengue, and St. Louis encephalitis. Most are arboviruses transmitted by mosquitoes or ticks. Also called group B arbovirus.

Flavivirus 
a genus of flaviviruses of worldwide distribution, containing about 75 species in 9 serogroups. It includes the viruses that cause yellow fever, dengue, Japanese B encephalitis, Kyasanur Forest disease, St. Louis encephalitis, tick-borne encephalitis, and West Nile encephalitis. Mosquitoes are the most common vector, with some species being tick-borne and some having no known vector.

Negative control samples included serum samples from healthy persons in areas where dengue is not endemic and from patients with other flavivirus infections, febrile illness of other causes, or systemic conditions.
As with most of the flavivirus infections, serology is the most practical method of diagnosis, and virus isolation and RT-PCR have limited utility.
The West Nile virus study, "Inhibition of Flavivirus Infections by Antisense Oligomers Specifically Suppressing Viral Translation and RNA Replication," tested the ability of AVI's NEUGENE drugs to inhibit West Nile virus infection, as well as infection by other viruses of the flavivirus family.
