The five year survival rate refers to the percentage of patients who live at least five years after receiving their diagnosis.
Metastasis occurs in 80-90% of individuals with stomach cancer, with a five year survival rate of 75% in those diagnosed in early stages and less than 30% of those diagnosed in late stages.
They are achieving five year survival rates for lung cancer of about 45 per cent.
