This is most likely the result of first-pass elimination of a medication or drug during oral consumption.
Other advantages include: 1) rapid systemic absorption; 2) quicker onset of therapeutic activity (versus oral); 3) lower required doses and fewer side effects (in some cases); 4) increased patient compliance (versus injection); and 5) avoidance of hepatic first-pass elimination and/or gastrointestinal metabolism of the drug.
