first-arch syndrome

A sequence type of embryopathy with anomalous development of the first branchial arch due to inadequacy of the stapedial artery, a function of maternal nutrition during early pregnancy.
 
Clinical findings
Facial bone hypoplasia—e.g., macrostomia, hemignathia, and mandibular deformity. These changes may be accompanied by hypertelorism, cleft lip and palate, deformities of middle and inner ear, or occur in other clinical syndromes—e.g., Franceschetti-Klein, Goldenhar, Pierre-Robin, Treacher-Collin syndromes.
