The practice of walking barefoot across hot coals, often in the context of a religious or quasi-religious ritual. Firewalking ability may be ascribed to supernatural forces, deities or a personal “bioelectric field”; proponents believe firewalking is a vehicle for overcoming fears, doubts, inhibitions and developing personal power, and it is claimed that firewalking can cure addiction disorders, claustrophobia, depression, impotence and obesity.
