fin winglike structure attached to the body of fish and cetaceans; used for steering and propulsion during progress through the water. fin rot a disease of aquarium fish characterized by thickening followed by necrosis of the fin and tail tissues, commencing at the edges, caused by Haemophilus piscum and Aeromonas spp. May be bracketed with fin rot/tail rot/snout erosion.
