Radiologic and histopathologic findings in a rare case of complex occult spinal dysraphism with association of a lumbar fibrolipoma, neurenteric cyst and tethered cord syndrome.
They include fibrolipomas, which have a higher component of connective tissue; myxolipomas, which contain gelatinous stroma; spindle-cell lipomas, which feature fibroblastoid spindle cells; and angiolipomas, which are characterized by extensive vascularization.
The histologic picture corresponds to sheets of hypocellular dense collagen, with interspersed mature fat, small vessels, and entrapped nerve fibers; since it is not composed of fibrocartilage, it resembles more of a fibrolipoma, lipomatosis, scar, or elastofibroma.
Terms such as fibrolipoma, hemangiolipoma, and myxolipoma are used when additional histologic components are apparent.
