fetlock
a term used for the metacarpo- and metatarso-phalangeal joint of large animals and sometimes dogs.

fetlock flexion test
passive flexion of the fetlock to determine if there is limitation of movement or pain with passive movement.
fetlock knuckling
fetlock flexes when the patient puts weight on the limb.

The explanation was that Smarty Jones has ``chronic bruising'' in all four fetlock joints, the equine equivalent of sprained ankles, the result of nine races (eight of them wins) without a significant break.
The surgery by Kentucky-based vet Larry Bramlage will be designed to fuse the fetlock joint with screws, wire and a metal plate, allowing the leg to bear weight.
