fescue see festuca. fescue foot caused under conditions of low ambient temperature by interference with the peripheral vasculature by ergot alkaloids produced by Neotyphodium(Acremonium) coenophialum infesting tall fescue grass; characterized by dry gangrene of the extremities, especially the feet, causing severe lameness, often commencing as long as several weeks after ingestion of infected grass. Infestation with Claviceps purpurea, or possibly other related fungi may also cause the disease. Accompanied by severe lameness. fescue summer toxicosis hyperthermia and loss of milk production in dairy cattle caused, under conditions of high ambient temperature, by heavy infestation with the endophytic fungus Neotyphodium (Acremonium) coenophialum of tall fescue grass. Called also summer slump. Horses manifest prolonged gestation with the birth of immature foals and a lowered milk production. How to thank TFD for its existence?
