fan beam,
a geometric pattern produced by collimating a spatially extended x-ray beam with a long, narrow slit. Also called fan x-ray beam.

In a typical application, a panoramic x-ray source that emits a fan beam of x-rays in an angle >180[degrees] is inserted inside of the tire under inspection and aligned with the internal collimator aperture opening.
The thickness of the fan beam may be as small as 1 millimeter or as large as 10 millimeters.
